As a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR), your son or ward is required to perform National Service (NS) in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), or Singapore Police Force (SPF) once he turns 18 years old. The NS journey consists of two years of full-time NS, followed by 10 years of Operationally Ready NS training.
As a small country, NS is the only way we can maintain a strong and credible force to ensure the independence and sovereignty of Singapore. Your son or ward’s commitment to NS directly contributes towards Singapore’s defence and security. His service is critical to ensure that Singapore remains safe and secure.
