What you need to know

  • You become a full-time National Serviceman (NSF) from enlistment day.
  • Your parent or guardian will also be invited to witness this special day.
  • You can view your projected enlistment date or enlistment date on the OneNS web portal.
  • Read your Enlistment Notice for details on dress code, programme, and items to bring.

What to expect

  • You will be notified of your actual enlistment date and time as well as your assigned unit through an Enlistment Notice about 2 months before your enlistment.
  • On enlistment day, you will go through the registration process and take an oath of allegiance.

Enlistment Notice

You will be notified of your enlistment date and time as well as your assigned unit through an Enlistment Notice about 2 months before your enlistment. It will also include a letter from your assigned unit with details about:

  • Date, time, and venue to report on enlistment day
  • Important contact numbers
  • A full list of items that you will need to bring and what’s not allowed in camp

Number of accompanying guests

The number of guests that can accompany you on enlistment day differs based on the service and unit that you have been assigned to. The details can be found in the reporting details sent to you and the invitation sent to your parent or guardian.

Dress code

As you will take your oath of allegiance, you must be dressed in smart casual attire. All guests must also come in smart casual attire. Singlets, bermuda shorts, shorts, slippers, and sandals are not allowed.

Enlistment day programme

Your basic training centre will depend on the uniformed service that you are enlisted with.

  • Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)

    : Basic Military Training Centre at Pulau Tekong or other SAF units

  • Singapore Civil Defence (SCDF)

    : National Service Training Centre at the Civil Defence Academy

  • Singapore Police Force (SPF)

    : Home Team Academy

This is the programme:

  • While you prepare for your oath-taking ceremony and complete registration, your guests will enjoy a guided tour of the bunks, training schools, and view some of the issued equipment.
  • You will hear from the Commanding Officer about your basic training.
  • You will take the oath of allegiance.
  • Your guests will have the opportunity to have cook house food with you.
  • Your guests will leave your basic training centre as you begin your National Service (NS) journey.

If you are unwell on enlistment day

If you are unwell on your enlistment day, you will need to:

  • call the Central Manpower Base (CMPB) at 6373 3127 (this number is only in use on enlistment day).
  • email your medical certificate to contact@ns.gov.sg by 12:00pm on the same day
  • provide the reason for your medical leave.

You may also need to report to the Medical Classification Centre at CMPB, located at 5 Depot Road, for a medical review.
