Eligibility
Every baby born in Singapore must be registered within 42 days from the date of birth. Registration costs S$18 per child, and the child will be issued with a digital birth certificate.
You can register a birth online if:
- the child is born in Singapore
- you’re the child’s biological parent
- you have a credit or debit card
If your child is eligible, you can also apply for Baby Bonus and sign up for library membership at the same time. Check your child’s Baby Bonus eligibility.
If you’re unable to make payment with a credit or debit card, please walk-in to register your child’s birth at ICA building. Do bring along both parents’ identification documents and marriage certificate (if applicable).
What you’ll need
To complete the registration, you’ll need:
- name, identification number, occupation, citizenship and marriage details of both parents (where applicable)
- name and birth information of the newborn child
- your credit or debit card details
One parent should start the birth registration as the main applicant, and the other parent (where applicable) will be required to confirm the details entered.
For more information about birth registration, visit the ICA website.
If one parent is not a citizen, permanent resident, or FIN holder
The parent who is a Singapore citizen, permanent resident, or FIN holder should log in with Singpass to start the birth registration as the main applicant.
The main applicant may be asked to upload the following supporting documents:
- passport biodata page of the other parent
- local or overseas marriage certificate (if applicable)
If these documents are not in the English language, official translations will be required.
If both parents are not citizens, permanent residents, or FIN holders
Either parent can start the birth registration as the main applicant with a valid email address. This can only be done on the website, and not the LifeSG app.
The main applicant may be asked to upload the following supporting documents:

If these documents are not in the English language, official translations will be required.

- personal details of the trustee who’ll manage the CDA
Library membership
You and your spouse have a total of 6 weeks of Shared Parental Leave (SPL) which must be used within 12 months of your child’s birth. By default, each parent is allocated 3 weeks each.
If your child is less than 4 weeks old, you can change this arrangement when you register your child’s birth.
